United States Navy ex-USS Klakring Sunk

The decommissioned frigate ex-USS Klakring was sunk as a target on 25 September 2026 during Exercise Atlantic Thunder 2026, a U.S. 6th Fleet-led sinking exercise near the Hebrides Range off northwest Scotland, the U.S. Navy announced. According to Naval News, the destroyer USS Paul Ignatius fired an SM-6, the Royal Navy engaged with a Naval Strike Missile from HMS Portland and Sea Venom from a Wildcat helicopter, and the submarine USS Massachusetts delivered the final hit with a Mk 48 torpedo. Built by Bath Iron Works, Klakring was commissioned in August 1983 and decommissioned in March 2013; her sinking removed no hull from the active fleet.
