Commissioned on 3 October 2026 at Whittier, Alaska, in a ceremony attended by the Acting Secretary of the Navy and the state's congressional delegation, the Anchorage Daily News reported. The ship had arrived on 28 September, the first destroyer to call at the Prince William Sound port in about 80 years, according to Military.com. Built by HII's Ingalls Shipbuilding at Pascagoula and delivered in December 2025, she is a Flight III Arleigh Burke-class destroyer fitted with the AN/SPY-6(V)1 Air and Missile Defense Radar. Named for the long-serving Alaska senator, she will be homeported at Norfolk, Virginia.
