Description
Lockheed Martin confirmed that Peru had committed to 12 new-build F-16 Block 70 fighters in a direct commercial sale valued at around 1.5 billion US dollars. The decision reversed an earlier Peruvian announcement, made in July 2025, that the Saab Gripen E/F had won the competition ahead of the F-16 Block 70 and the Rafale F4 on unit cost and delivery timeline grounds. The reversal followed political controversy in Lima over the signing process. The aircraft will replace an ageing Peruvian Air Force combat fleet still built around Mirage 2000, MiG-29 and Su-25 types, restoring a modern multirole capability.
