Czech Air Force UH-1Y Crash

A Czech Air Force UH-1Y Venom crashed on 23 July 2026 at the 22nd Helicopter Air Base in Náměšť nad Oslavou, in the Vysočina region, with five personnel aboard. One soldier was killed and four were injured; three with moderate injuries were taken to hospital in Brno and one with light injuries to Jihlava, while three further people were treated for smoke inhalation. The Defence Ministry called the accident an immense tragedy and the armed forces grounded the entire H-1 fleet — both UH-1Y Venoms and AH-1Z Vipers — pending the investigation. The Venoms were acquired under the 2019 US foreign military sale that is replacing Czechia's Soviet-era Mi-24/35 attack helicopters.
