Description
The US Air Force's 5th Helicopter Squadron, part of the 316th Wing, accepted its first HH-60W Jolly Green II at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, on 2 November 2026, the Air Force said. According to Air & Space Forces Magazine, the helicopter came directly from Sikorsky's factory in Connecticut. At Andrews the type will fly contingency response and executive airlift over the National Capital Region, replacing the UH-1N Hueys used for those missions since 1971. Air & Space Forces Magazine reports that the 5th and 1st Helicopter Squadrons are to receive 26 HH-60Ws between them, after the service dropped its MH-139 Grey Wolf plan for the mission; the first UH-1N crews begin transition training in January.
