Basilio Fernando Air Base (Lipa Air Base)

Basilio Fernando Air Base, formerly Lipa Air Base, is located in Lipa, Batangas, 83 kilometers south-southeast of Manila, Philippines. The installation was established by the U.S. Army prior to the Pacific War. On December 22, 1941, personnel from the 27th Bombardment Group temporarily transferred to the base before departing for Cabcaben Airfield on December 25. In early 1942, elements of the Japanese Imperial Army 16th Division, commanded by General Morioka, occupied the installation, repairing and expanding the airfield during the Japanese occupation. On April 12, 1948, President Manuel Roxas renamed the site Fernando Field, which later became Fernando Air Base, in honor of Lieutenant Colonel Basilio Fernando. In 1952, the Philippine Air Force designated the base for the 100th Training Wing, grouping the Air Force Flying School, Technical Training Center, and NCO Academy.

The base is operated by the Philippine Air Force and houses the Air Education, Training, and Doctrine Command (AETDC). On September 21, 1999, the 100th Training Wing was deactivated, and its educational functions were assumed by the command, which was assigned doctrine development responsibilities through the Air Warfare Center in 2018. Units stationed at the base include the PAF Officer School, PAF Basic Military School, PAF Non-Commissioned Officer School, PAF Flying School, PAF Officer Candidate School, and PAF Technical and Specialization School. Additional educational entities present include the PAF Aviation Leadership and Excellence Nexus and the PAF Civilian Human Resource School. Stationed support units consist of the 550th Air Base Group, the 440th Aircraft Maintenance Group, the Fernando Air Base Hospital, and the 1303rd Dental Dispensary.

On-base facilities include officers and enlisted personnel clubhouses, a chapel, athletic facilities, a 0.6-kilometer firing range, an 18-hole golf course, and medical facilities.
