Description
El Copero Air Base is a Spanish military facility located in Dos Hermanas, adjacent to the Guadalquivir river. Established in 1954, it originally operated as a Spanish Air Force base housing the Escuela Elemental de Pilotos de Complemento until its closure in 1955. Control of the installation transferred to the Spanish Army on December 30, 1975.
Currently operated by the Spanish Army Airmobile Force (FAMET), the base functions as a military heliport. It hosts the Batallón de Helicópteros de Maniobra IV (BHELMA IV), which has been stationed at the installation continuously since 1979. BHELMA IV operates AS332 Super Puma helicopters from the facility. Additional units based at El Copero include the 32 Regiment of Electronic War, established there in 1996 following a merger with the 22 Regiment of Electronic War, and the Regimiento de Artillería Antiaérea n.º 74 (RAAA 74).
The base's infrastructure underwent an expansion in April 2022 through a 43 million euro investment, which incorporated environmentally friendly facility designs.
