Fedotovo Air Base (Kipelovo)

Fedotovo Air Base, also known as Kipelovo, is an active Russian Naval Aviation facility located 44 kilometers west of Vologda, Russia, near the Kipelovo railway station. Established in 1963, the installation historically supported reconnaissance operations for the Northern Fleet Air Arm. Aircraft based at Fedotovo conducted flights over the Atlantic Ocean and Arctic to monitor Western naval forces, with deployments to Cuba, Angola, and Guinea throughout the 1970s.

The 392nd Independent Long-Range Reconnaissance Aviation Regiment (392 ODRAP) was the initial unit stationed at the facility, beginning operations in 1963 with Tupolev Tu-95RTs aircraft. In March 1970, the 76th Long Range Anti-Submarine Aviation Regiment (76 PLAPDD) introduced Tupolev Tu-142M aircraft, conducting operations in the Atlantic Ocean and Barents Sea. The base also hosted the 135th Long Range Anti-Submarine Aviation Regiment (135 PLAPDD), equipped with Tu-142M and Tu-142MR aircraft. Both anti-submarine regiments operated under the 35th Long-Range Anti-Submarine Aviation Division (35 PLAD).

Infrastructure at Fedotovo supports long-range aviation operations. The facility incorporates a tarmac situated along a parallel taxiway and features 20 aircraft revetments.

Fedotovo currently hosts the 2nd Guards Aviation Group, 5th Independent Anti-submarine Aviation Squadron. This unit operates Tupolev Tu-142MK, Tu-142MR, and Tu-142MZ aircraft.
