Description
Gwangju Air Base is located in Sinchon-dong, Gwangsan District, Gwangju, South Korea. The installation was established in November 1948. It was originally situated in neighboring Jangseong on a military training facility before relocating to its current site in 1964. The facility operates as a joint-use airfield, sharing infrastructure between a military base and a commercial airport managed by the Korea Airports Corporation. Infrastructure at the site includes military facilities, an apron, and a terminal building constructed in 1994. A cargo terminal operates within a repurposed former terminal building.
