Description
Klokovo is an air base located on the north fringe of Tula, Tula Oblast, Russia. It was built in 1946 and has been in continuous use since then. The base was historically home to the 374th Independent Military Transport Aviation Regiment (374 OVTAP) between 1946 and 1975, which operated Ilyushin Il-76 and Antonov An-22 large cargo planes of the 12th Military Transport Aviation Division. A scholastic regiment of Tambov military aircraft school, flying Aero L-29 Delfín, was also based there. The runway was shared with a civil airport until the latter closed in 1992. Klokovo air base is owned by the Ministry of Defence and operated by the Russian Aerospace Forces. It is currently home to the 490th Independent Helicopter Regiment.
