Kluang Airport (Lapangan Terbang Kluang)

Kluang Airport is a military aerodrome located in the Kluang District of Johor, Malaysia, approximately 80 kilometres north of Johor Bahru. Situated adjacent to Camp Mahkota within the Kluang Garrison, the installation is owned by the Ministry of Defence and controlled by Malaysian Army Aviation. Air operations are managed by the 881st Army Aviation Regiment. Stationed units include the 881st Army Aviation Regiment and the 883rd Army Aviation Regiment. The aerodrome is classified as public but restricted, operating exclusively for helicopter flights alongside small-to-medium chartered or private aircraft.

The site was originally established in the late 1930s as a secondary emergency landing ground for the Royal Air Force. Following its capture in 1942, Imperial Japanese forces expanded the landing strip into an airbase for the Imperial Japanese Army Air Service's 3rd Air Army. British forces assumed control in August 1945, converting the airfield into an army base that became the headquarters for the 5th Infantry Brigade in 1946 and the 2nd Infantry Division in 1947. During the Malayan Emergency, the installation housed the 63rd Gurkha Infantry Brigade, ground infantry units, an armoured regiment, and Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm helicopter squadrons.

In the early 1960s, British No. 656 Squadron AAC relocated to the airfield. The British military handed over the facility to Malaysia in 1970, dividing it into Camp Mahkota for the Malaysian Army and RMAF Kluang Air Base for the Royal Malaysian Air Force. The airfield hosted domestic commercial flights until 1974, when services consolidated at Senai International Airport. The base housed RMAF No. 2 Flight Training School from 1978 until the unit relocated in 1994. Malaysian Army Aviation was established at the airfield in July 1994, assuming full base management in 1996, and RMAF personnel fully departed the installation in 2015.

Base infrastructure includes an airport terminal, aircraft hangars, concrete helipads, the Army Field Engineering Institute, and the Kluang Gurkha Cemetery.
