Description
Nasosnaya Air Base is a military installation operated by the Azerbaijani Air Force, located in Hacı Zeynalabdin, near Sumqayit, Azerbaijan.
In July 1940, the 50th Fighter Aviation Regiment of the Transcaucasus Air Force was assigned to the airfield, re-equipping two squadrons from I-15bis to Polikarpov I-153 biplane fighters. The 82nd Fighter Aviation Regiment PVO of the Soviet Air Defence Forces was stationed at the base for several decades, beginning around 1945. In 1977, the regiment transitioned to operating Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-25 long-range interceptors.
During the Soviet military withdrawal overnight on 9–10 June 1992, Azerbaijani forces secured the aircraft remaining at the base, including MiG-25PDS fighter-interceptors assigned to the 82nd Fighter Aviation Regiment, as well as MiG-25P and MiG-25RB variants undergoing maintenance. Following the probable disbandment of the Soviet regiment in 1993, the Azerbaijani Air and Air Defence Force continued to operate MiG-25 aircraft from the base for several years.
Infrastructure at the facility historically included the 210th Aviation Repair Plant of the Air Defence Forces, which conducted maintenance and repair work on Soviet interceptor and reconnaissance aircraft.
