Description

Piacenza-San Damiano Air Base was a military airport located in Piacenza, Emilia-Romagna, Italy, operated by the Italian Air Force. Construction of the facility began in 1936, and it opened on 28 March 1938 for use by the Regia Aeronautica as a bomber base and training field.

In the autumn of 1941, the Luftwaffe assumed control of the installation, utilizing it as a training and transit base for aircraft operating in the Mediterranean theater. By the end of 1942, Piacenza functioned as a staging base for bombers in Italy, and it transitioned to an operational base by the autumn of 1943. In May 1944, allied attacks rendered the airfield unserviceable, resulting in the withdrawal of stationed units and their remaining aircraft.

The installation officially closed on 1 September 2017.
