Furbara Air Base

Furbara Air Base is an Italian Air Force facility located in Furbara, a hamlet of Cerveteri, approximately 40 kilometers north of Rome near the coast. Established during World War I, the base commenced operations on September 20, 1918, housing the Acrobatics and Fighter Gunnery School of the Royal Italian Army. Until the mid-1920s, it hosted the Fighter School of the Regia Aeronautica before operations were relocated due to malaria in the region. Furbara subsequently operated as an Armament Experimental Unit, establishing a firing range under the administrative control of Vigna di Valle airport, and maintained a military transmission detachment at Torre Chiaruccia. By September 1943, the base hosted the Air Observation School, which operated Caproni Ca.313 aircraft.

Following World War II, flight operations were reduced with the opening of Fiumicino airport, and the grounds were utilized as a firing range for Vigilanza Aeronautica Militare training. A section of the installation was reactivated in 2008.

The base is operated by the Italian Air Force and currently hosts the 17° Stormo Incursori, a special forces helicopter wing, alongside the 1ª Brigata Aerea Operazioni Speciali. Infrastructure at the installation includes a heliport.
