Description
Royal Naval Air Station Merryfield (RNAS Merryfield) is an active air station of the Royal Navy's Fleet Air Arm, located in Somerset, England, 2.7 miles north-west of Ilminster and 8.1 miles south-east of Taunton. Established in 1971, the station previously hosted the 700, 766, 802, 809, 891, 893, and 894 Naval Air Squadrons.
RNAS Merryfield operates as a satellite station to RNAS Yeovilton (HMS Heron) and currently has no permanently based squadrons. The site is used mainly for military helicopter field and deck-landing training. The station's infrastructure features taxiways marked with multiple lettered helicopter landing spots.
