Tecnam P2006T

The Tecnam P2006T is an Italian twin-engined light aircraft developed by Costruzioni Aeronautiche Tecnam. It was designed as a high-winged, all-metal aircraft and received airworthiness certification in the European Union by EASA under CS23 in 2003, type certification in 2009, and Federal Aviation Administration FAR Part 23 certification in 2010. The P2006T made its first flight on 13 September 2007 and was certified by EASA on 5 June 2009. A significant application of the P2006T's design is NASA's use of its basic structure for the all-electric X-57 Maxwell prototype aircraft.

Design

The P2006T is a twin-engined four-seat cantilever high-wing monoplane, equipped with retractable tricycle landing gear. Its stabilator, a single unit with a cutout in its leading edge, is attached to the fuselage aft of the vertical fin. The nosewheel retracts into the nose cone, while the main units retract into stubs extending from the lower fuselage. Access to the seating area is provided by a door on each side of the fuselage, with an additional escape hatch above the forward seats for emergency egress. The aircraft's Rotax engines feature liquid-cooled cylinder heads and cooling vanes on the cylinder barrels, necessitating both cooling airflow through the nacelle and a cooling radiator in each cowl. The electric starters are required for both ground starts and inflight restarts, prompting the addition of a backup battery for FAA certification. The pilot's power quadrant includes controls for throttle, propeller RPM, and carburetor heat for each engine; automatic mixture adjustment eliminates the need for a manual mixture control. Pushrods are used for linkage between the flight controls and the flight surfaces.

Operational History

The specifications mention a payload of 618 pounds (280 kg) with full fuel. The P2006T has seen service in a variety of roles and locations. The Italian Air Force utilizes three leased aircraft for multi-engine pilot training, designated as T-2006A. Several air forces such as the Dominican Air Force also employ the P2006T. Civilian operators include Harv's Air Service in Canada, Air Taxi in India, and the Romanian Aviation Academy. Law enforcement agencies such as the Guardia Civil in Spain and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources in the United States also operate the aircraft.
