Description

The Shahed-107 is an Iranian one-way attack drone produced by Shahed Aviation Industries (HESA). Designed as a vehicle-launched loitering munition, it was first described publicly in January 2024 and formally presented in June 2025. It is known for its use by Russia against Ukraine, where recovered airframes revealed anti-jamming guidance hardware and Western-sourced electronic components.

Development

The type was first reported in January 2024, when a security source told Sky News that Iran had offered "a few units" to Russia under a deal valued at more than USD 2 million. It was formally presented in June 2025. Airframes recovered in Ukraine during 2025 were manufactured in Iran in 2024. Electronic components taken from recovered examples have been traced to suppliers in the United States, Switzerland, China, Japan, Taiwan, the Netherlands and Ireland.

Design

Published dimensions vary between sources and recovered examples. An example recovered and dismantled in Ukraine measured 1.6 m in length with a 2.5 m wingspan and a launch weight of about 26 kg; earlier descriptions gave roughly 2.5 m in length for a 3 m wingspan. The airframe is built of carbon fibre with aluminium load-bearing elements. Propulsion is provided by a Chinese DLE 111 two-stroke gasoline engine driving a pusher propeller, fed by a 28-litre fuel tank. Launch is from a vehicle-mounted rail. Guidance uses an inertial navigation system of the Iranian "Sadra" type, a dedicated anti-jamming module and a four-element CRPA antenna, allowing the drone to retain guidance under electronic attack. Ukrainian intelligence estimates the effective range at about 300 km, whereas earlier reporting credited the type with up to 1,500 km.

Armament

The dismantled example recovered in Ukraine carried a 15 kg high-explosive fragmentation warhead incorporating a shaped-charge element. Other assessments give a warhead mass of 8 to 9 kg. The aircraft is expended in the attack and carries no other armament.

Operational History

Ukrainian electronic-warfare specialists confirmed the type's use over Ukraine in November 2025. Ukrainian military intelligence described Russia as battle-testing the Shahed-107 against frontline regions before wider employment. Operators are Iran and Russia.
