Argentina Army

The Argentine Army (Ejército Argentino) operates under the direction of the Army General Staff and is organized into three army divisions alongside the Rapid Deployment Force. Operational control is distributed geographically across the 1st Army Division headquartered in Curuzú Cuatiá, the 2nd Army Division headquartered in Córdoba, and the 3rd Army Division headquartered in Bahía Blanca. Operational formations include the 1st and 2nd Armored Brigades, the 9th, 10th, and 11th Mechanized Brigades, the 5th, 6th, and 8th Mountain Brigades, the 3rd and 12th Jungle Brigades, and the 4th Paratrooper Brigade assigned to the Rapid Deployment Force. Specialized functional elements comprise the 601st Air Defense Artillery Group, the Special Operations Forces Group, and the Army Aviation Command. Primary garrisons and maintenance facilities are situated at Campo de Mayo, Boulogne Sur Mer, Córdoba, Bahía Blanca, Curuzú Cuatiá, and Toay.

Armored units field the Tanque Argentino Mediano medium tank and SK-105 Kürassier light tanks. Mechanized infantry formations operate TAM VCTP tracked infantry fighting vehicles, M113 tracked armored personnel carriers in command and transport roles, and M1126 Stryker 8x8 wheeled armored vehicles. Field artillery units deploy TAM VCA 155 mm self-propelled howitzers, CITEFA L33 155 mm towed howitzers, and Oto Melara Model 56 105 mm pack howitzers, supported by CP-30 and SLAM Pampero multiple launch rocket systems. Air defense forces operate RBS 70 NG man-portable surface-to-air missile systems, Roland II missile units, and Oerlikon 20 mm and 35 mm anti-aircraft cannons. The Army Aviation Command, headquartered at Campo de Mayo Military Airfield, operates Bell UH-1H and Huey II utility helicopters, Aérospatiale SA 315B Lama search and rescue helicopters, Cessna 208B Grand Caravan transports, and Diamond DA62 MPP intelligence and surveillance aircraft.

Primary operational duties center on territorial defense, border surveillance, disaster relief, and logistical support for Antarctic research stations. International operational deployments include ongoing contributions to United Nations peacekeeping operations, such as the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus. Recent modernization initiatives focus on the TAM 2C-A2 upgrade program, which installs all-weather optronics, thermal sights, digitized fire control systems, and target tracking equipment on the existing TAM chassis. Additional capabilities are being established through the procurement of M1126 Stryker wheeled vehicles to equip rapid response forces, alongside the integration of RBS 70 NG laser-guided air defense systems across operational commands.
