Bangladesh Army

The Bangladesh Army is organized under Army Headquarters at Dhaka Cantonment, commanded by the Chief of Army Staff. Operational ground forces are structured into ten infantry divisions assigned to regional area commands, supported by independent armored, artillery, engineer, signal, and air defense brigades. Division headquarters and cantonments are located at Savar (9th Infantry Division), Chittagong (24th Infantry Division), Comilla (33rd Infantry Division), Bogra (11th Infantry Division), Ghatail (19th Infantry Division), Jessore (55th Infantry Division), Rangpur (66th Infantry Division), Cox's Bazar (10th Infantry Division), Sylhet (17th Infantry Division), and Barisal (7th Infantry Division). Tactical and operational doctrine is overseen by the Army Training and Doctrine Command, while flight operations fall under the Army Aviation Group.

Armored units operate VT-4, MBT-2000, and upgraded Type 59G(BD) and Type 69-IIG main battle tanks, alongside VT-5 light tanks designed for low-bearing terrain. Mechanized infantry formations field BTR-80 wheeled armored personnel carriers, Otokar Cobra I and II armored vehicles, MaxxPro mine-resistant ambush protected vehicles, and Type 92 armored vehicles. Artillery regiments rely on TRG-300 Tiger and WS-22 guided multiple launch rocket systems, complemented by NORA B-52 self-propelled howitzers and Type 59-1 towed field guns. Air defense units deploy HQ-17AE short-range surface-to-air missile systems, FM-90 air defense systems, QW-18A man-portable air defense systems, and radar-guided Oerlikon GDF-009 35mm anti-aircraft guns. Army aviation assets include Bayraktar TB2 unmanned combat aerial vehicles, C295W fixed-wing transport aircraft, Mi-171Sh helicopters, and Eurocopter AS365 Dauphins.

Primary missions comprise territorial defense, border surveillance, internal security, and disaster response. The army conducts internal security and counter-insurgency operations in the Chittagong Hill Tracts under Operation Uttoron. Ground formations maintain active positions along the southeastern border with Myanmar to address spillover from regional armed conflicts and insurgent group activity. Internationally, the army deploys personnel contingents to United Nations peacekeeping operations, including deployments in the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and South Sudan.

Modernization programs operate under the Forces Goal 2030 initiative, which emphasizes force expansion, air defense enhancement, and vehicle fleet renewal. Domestic manufacturing capabilities are anchored by Bangladesh Ordnance Factories, which produces small arms, light infantry weapons, and artillery ammunition, while Bangladesh Machine Tools Factory provides vehicle assembly, modification, and repair services. Foreign procurement continues through acquisitions of armored vehicles, air defense batteries, and artillery systems from China, Turkey, and European suppliers.
