Czechia Army

The Czech Land Forces, structured as the land warfare component of the Army of the Czech Republic, are directed by Land Forces Command in Olomouc. Operational forces are organized into two combat brigades, an airborne regiment, and specialized support regiments. The 4th Rapid Deployment Brigade, headquartered in Žatec, maintains mechanized and light motorized units stationed at Žatec, Tábor, Jindřichův Hradec, and Rakovník. The 7th Mechanized Brigade, headquartered in Hranice, oversees armored and mechanized units located at Hranice and Přáslavice. Airborne capabilities are concentrated under the 43rd Airborne Regiment in Chrudim. Specialized support formations include the 13th Artillery Regiment in Jince, the 15th Engineer Regiment in Bechyně, the 31st CBRN Defense Regiment in Liberec, the 53rd Reconnaissance and Electronic Warfare Regiment in Opava, and the 14th Logistics Support Regiment in Pardubice.

Force composition includes armored, mechanized, light motorized, and artillery elements. Heavy armored units operate Leopard 2A4 main battle tanks and T-72 variants, supported by Büffel 3 armored recovery vehicles. Mechanized infantry units field Pandur II 8x8 wheeled infantry fighting vehicles and legacy BVP-2 tracked infantry fighting vehicles. Motorized and light forces utilize Iveco LMV light armored vehicles and Titus 6x8 armored command and communications vehicles. Indirect fire support is provided by 152 mm DANA self-propelled gun-howitzers and 155 mm CAESAR 8x8 self-propelled howitzers. Tactical air defense relying on short-range ground-based assets includes the RBS 70 system.

Modernization programs focus on replacing Soviet-era equipment with Western-standard platforms. Heavy mechanization is transitioning to CV90 Mk IV tracked infantry fighting vehicles to replace BVP-2 platforms. The armored corps is upgrading to Leopard 2A8 main battle tanks following procurement arrangements finalized in 2025, using Leopard 2A4 tanks as operational transitional assets. Modernization of indirect fire elements centers on full integration of the 155 mm NATO-standard CAESAR 8x8 platform. Domestic defense industrial involvement includes local assembly, component fabrication, and integration of national C4ISTAR communications systems into newly acquired armored vehicles.

Primary missions comprise territorial defense and NATO collective defense commitments under Article 5. Operational deployments include leading the NATO multinational battlegroup in Slovakia and contributing rotational infantry and support elements to NATO forward presence forces in the Baltic states. Czech land forces also maintain deployments in international advisory and stabilization missions across the Middle East and Africa.
