Denmark Army

The Royal Danish Army, known as Hæren, is commanded by the Army Command, Hærkommandoen, located at Karup Air Base under Defence Command Denmark. Operational units are structured into two primary formations: the 1st Brigade, headquartered in Holstebro, which functions as a heavy combat force, and the 2nd Brigade, headquartered in Slagelse, which oversees specialized units, armored reconnaissance, and light infantry. Combat and support units are assigned to regiments stationed across various garrisons, including the Jutland Dragoon Regiment in Holstebro, the Guard Hussar Regiment in Slagelse and Rønne, the Royal Life Guards in Høvelte and Copenhagen, the Danish Artillery Regiment in Oksbøl, the Engineer Regiment in Skive, the Logistic Regiment in Aalborg, the Intelligence Regiment in Varde, the Command Support Regiment in Fredericia, and the Schleswig Regiment of Foot in Haderslev. Denmark also contributes officers to the command element of NATO Multinational Division North in Ādaži, Latvia.

Ground combat arms consist of armored, mechanized, motorized, artillery, and air defense units. Tank units operate Leopard 2A7V main battle tanks. Mechanized infantry units are equipped with CV90 tracked infantry fighting vehicles, while motorized infantry and command formations utilize Piranha V wheeled 8x8 armored personnel carriers and Eagle V light armored vehicles. Indirect fire capabilities comprise truck-mounted ATMOS 155mm self-propelled howitzers and PULS multiple rocket launcher systems. Very short-range air defense relies on FIM-92 Stinger surface-to-air missiles. Organic army aviation was previously disbanded, with rotary-wing airlift and tactical air support provided by the Royal Danish Air Force's Helicopter Wing Karup, while ground forces employ tactical unmanned aerial systems.

Operational deployments focus on territorial defense, NATO collective security, and multinational expeditionary missions. Land forces have participated in overseas combat and peacekeeping operations in Afghanistan, Iraq, Kosovo, and Mali. As part of NATO forward defense measures along the eastern flank, Denmark maintains rotational deployments of combat forces to Latvia, integrating battalion-sized units into the Canadian-led multinational brigade at Ādaži. Current procurement and modernization efforts center on upgrading armored vehicle fleets and establishing mobile air defense. Acquisitions include CV90 MkIIIC infantry fighting vehicles to standardize heavy mechanized formations and Rheinmetall Skyranger 30 gun turrets, which are being integrated onto Piranha V chassis to provide mobile air defense for maneuver units.
