Description

The GBU-48 Enhanced Paveway II entered service in 2008. It was developed as a dual-mode iteration of the Paveway II laser-guided bomb series.

The system utilizes a guidance package that combines semi-active laser homing with Global Positioning System (GPS) and Inertial Navigation System (INS) capabilities. This dual-mode configuration allows for precision strikes in all-weather conditions. The weapon is based on the Mk 83 warhead.

The GBU-48 is widely deployed and is operated by the United States. It has been exported to several countries, including Australia, Canada, Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway, and the United Kingdom. Additional operators include Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan.
