JSDF Base Djibouti (ジブチ共和国における自衛隊拠点)

Japan Self-Defense Force Base Djibouti is the Japan Self-Defense Forces' overseas installation supporting counter-piracy operations off Somalia and in the Gulf of Aden. It lies at Ambouli, adjacent to Djibouti–Ambouli International Airport, in Djibouti. The base is owned and operated by the JSDF and is the country's first full-scale, long-term facility of its kind abroad; as of 2025 the base commander, who also commands the Deployment Support-Group for Counter Piracy Enforcement in Djibouti, is Colonel Fumihito Tanaka.

Two formations are stationed at the site: the Deployment Air Force Counter Piracy Enforcement and the Deployment Support-Group for Counter Piracy Enforcement. The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force operates maritime patrol aircraft from the base in support of destroyers deployed to the anti-piracy mission; P-3C Orions flew the initial patrols and Kawasaki P-1 aircraft deployed from 2015. Japan Air Self-Defense Force transport aircraft, including C-130H Hercules of the 401st Tactical Airlift Squadron and the C-2 of the 403rd Tactical Airlift Squadron, have operated from the base, which in December 2023 was designated a base of operations for the transport of Japanese nationals out of conflict zones. Personnel serve on a rotational basis.

The site comprises roughly 12 hectares, later extended by a further 3 hectares to the east, and includes a command headquarters, accommodation and a parking apron.

The JMSDF established the base in March 2011, at a cost of ¥4.7 billion, after operating from the United States Navy's Camp Lemonnier from 2009. Its legal basis rests on a status agreement signed on 3 April 2009 by the Japanese and Djiboutian foreign ministers.
