Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard (Navy Yard Pearl Harbor)

Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility is a United States Navy repair and maintenance yard on the shore of East Loch at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, opposite Ford Island. It occupies 148 acres and is one of four public shipyards operated by the Navy. The yard is physically part of Joint Base Pearl Harbor–Hickam.

The shipyard's dry docks are used mainly for the repair and maintenance of nuclear submarines, including Los Angeles-class attack boats. It employs roughly 5,800 civilians and 500 military personnel and is commanded by a Navy captain.

Berthing at the yard is numbered B-1 to B-26. The 1010 dock, a wharf originally 1,010 feet long and since lengthened, carries berths B-1 to B-3; Bravo Docks, a 2,900-foot wharf, carries berths B-22 to B-26. Of the four graving docks, Dock No. 1 dates from 1919, Dock No. 2 is a 1,000-by-133-foot battleship dock, Dock No. 3 measures 497 by 84 feet and was built for destroyers and submarines, and Dock No. 4, completed in July 1943, measures 1,100 by 147 feet; the Dock No. 4 contract also covered a power plant and carrier moorings. A 3,000-ton, 836-foot marine railway for destroyers and submarines was completed in September 1943. The Naval Inactive Ship Maintenance Facility at Pearl Harbor, part of the Navy reserve fleets, holds logistic support cargo ships and amphibious transport docks afloat and in condition for reactivation, together with decommissioned units awaiting disposal.

A naval station existed at Pearl Harbor from 1898, and in 1908 Congress appropriated $3 million to build a navy yard on the site. The first dry dock collapsed before completion and, after rebuilding, opened in 1919. The shipyard was separated from the naval station as its own command in December 1941, dividing military from industrial functions.
