PNS Himalaya (HMIS Himalaya)

PNS Himalaya is a Pakistan Navy training establishment on Manora Island, off the Karachi coast in Sindh, Pakistan. It is the Pakistan Navy's basic training establishment, conducting the initial orientation and recruit training of newly enrolled sailor candidates, and is designated the Home of the Armed Forces Diving School.

The base hosts the Pakistan Navy Diving School, which trains personnel of the Pakistan Navy, Pakistan Marines, Pakistan Air Force and Pakistan Army. The school also certifies personnel from civilian agencies and from allied navies, including those of Bangladesh, Jordan, the Maldives, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka and Turkey.

The installation was established by the Royal Indian Navy and commissioned as HMIS Himalaya on 27 November 1943, named after the Himalaya range. The Royal Navy set up the first diving section at the site alongside a gunnery school, the latter now the Surface Warfare School at PNS Bahadur. From December 1950 the base expanded into a marine training establishment and, owing to its size and accommodation, housed a number of the navy's schools until these were dispersed to other locations in 1980; in the same year the diving section was upgraded to a full armed forces diving school. The recommissioned Pakistan Marines were temporarily headquartered at PNS Himalaya from 14 April 1990 before moving to PNS Iqbal and subsequently to PNS Qasim.
