Zhoushan Naval Base

Zhoushan Naval Base is a People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) installation on the East China Sea coast of Zhejiang province, China. It is one of the bases of the Eastern Theater Command Navy (ETCN), the naval component of the Eastern Theater Command, whose headquarters is at Ningbo; the ETCN's other bases lie in Fujian. The ETCN is responsible for coastal defence from Lianyungang in the north to Dongshan County in the south, and its subordinate formations include destroyer and submarine zhidui, a frigate dadui, a fastboat zhidui, a combat support zhidui, two air divisions and a radar brigade.

The base traces its parent organisation to the East China Navy, established on 21 April 1949 by Zhang Aiping under the Third Field Army, with headquarters moved to Shanghai on 27 May of that year. The East China Navy became the East Sea Fleet in 1955. The fleet was reorganised as the Eastern Theater Command Navy by 2016.
