United States Navy Virginia-class Ordered

The Navy awarded General Dynamics Electric Boat and Newport News Shipbuilding 42.1 billion dollars on 29 July 2026 for nine Block VI Virginia-class attack submarines, plus long-lead material for a tenth boat. Newport News will serve as delivery yard for six of the nine. The award formed part of a combined 76.6 billion dollar package with the Columbia class and followed roughly three years of negotiation delays. The Navy is targeting two Virginia deliveries a year but the yards are currently completing about one, and the first ten Block V boats are running close to three years late. Twenty-six Virginias have been delivered to date.
