Description
Germany's Bundestag Budget Committee approved the purchase of four additional MEKO A-200 DEU frigates from TKMS on 8 October 2026, exercising the option it had reserved when it cleared the first four ships in July 2026, according to Defense News. The Defence Ministry said the decision gives the German Navy a single eight-ship class intended chiefly for anti-submarine warfare. Reuters put the cost of the second tranche, including project support and reserves, at about €5.6 billion, according to Defense News. The MEKO A-200 was selected after the government abandoned the F126 program; delivery of the first ship is set for 2029.
