Le Luc – Le Cannet (Base école Général Lejay)

Le Luc – Le Cannet, also designated as Base école Général Lejay, is an active military airfield located in Le Cannet-des-Maures, France. Operated by the French Army Light Aviation (ALAT), the base serves as one of two operating sites for the École de l'aviation légère de l'Armée de terre (EALAT). The installation is named after General André Lejay, the first commander of the ALAT, and is the institutional heir to the disbanded 2e régiment d'hélicoptères de combat. The military flight school relocated its application branch to Le Cannet-des-Maures on March 19, 1963.

The base conducts specialty and combat training for military helicopter pilots following their initial flight instruction. Operational training tracks include maneuver and assault, support and destruction, and reconnaissance and attack. The installation provides instrument flight qualification for French Air Force and French Navy pilots, alongside continuous operational preparation for experienced aviators. Approximately 20 percent of local flight operations occur at night. Pilots utilize the nearby Mediterranean Sea, mountain, and plateau environments for terrain instruction.

Le Luc – Le Cannet hosts three co-located training organizations. The EALAT Base école Général Lejay operates Aérospatiale Gazelle, Eurocopter Fennec, and Aérospatiale Puma helicopters. The installation houses the École franco-allemande de formation des équipages Tigre (EFA Tigre), established on July 1, 2003. This bi-national unit conducts flight and simulator instruction for French and German EC665 Tiger crews, operating both the French HAP and German KHS variants. Additionally, the Centre de formation inter-armées NH90 (CFIA NH90), established on July 1, 2010, operates NH90 Caiman helicopters. This joint-service center provides initial flight and simulator instruction for Army and Navy pilots before naval aviators proceed to specialized training at BAN Hyères.
