Petawawa Heliport (Garrison Petawawa (formerly CFB Petawawa))

Petawawa Heliport is part of 4 Canadian Division Support Base Petawawa, located in Renfrew County, Ontario, 170 kilometers northwest of Ottawa along the Ottawa River. The Department of Militia and Defence established the installation in 1905 as Petawawa Military Camp, initially hosting the Royal Canadian Horse and Garrison Artillery. On July 31, 1909, the site hosted the first military aircraft flight in Canada, flown by the "Silver Dart." The site operated as an internment camp for civilian internees during World War I and World War II. The installation was designated Camp Petawawa in 1951 and renamed Canadian Forces Base Petawawa in 1968. In 1977, the Special Service Force was formed at the base, which was subsequently reorganized into the 2 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group in 1995.

The Canadian Army operates the garrison. The base houses the 4th Canadian Division Support Group, 2 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group, the Canadian Special Operations Regiment, and the Canadian Special Operations Training Centre.

The Petawawa Heliport is situated approximately 5 kilometers north of the main garrison. It features multiple helipads supporting rotary-wing operations. The heliport hosts the 427 Special Operations Aviation Squadron and the 450 Tactical Helicopter Squadron. These units operate fleets of Bell CH-146 Griffon and CH-147F Chinook helicopters. The broader garrison encompasses over 300 square kilometers of property, which includes the Petawawa Training Area.
