Description

Coast Guard Air Enclave Bhubaneswar is a military aviation facility situated at Biju Patnaik International Airport, located approximately four kilometers southwest of the Bhubaneswar railway station in Odisha, India. The civil airport was established on 17 April 1962. The Coast Guard Air Enclave was formally commissioned on 15 December 2014 by the Director General of the Indian Coast Guard.

The installation is operated by the Indian Coast Guard and falls under the operational and administrative control of the Commander of the Coast Guard Region (North East) through the Commander, Coast Guard District No 7 (Odisha). The enclave's primary mission involves conducting air operations for the patrol and protection of sea areas off the Odisha coast. The facility hosts two aviation units: CGAS 743, which operates Dornier 228 aircraft, and CGAS 830, which operates Dhruv Mk III helicopters.

Operating as a joint civil-military facility, the enclave utilizes the broader airport infrastructure. The airport apron includes 24 bays, facilitating remote aircraft parking and night operations. Freight operations are supported by an integrated cargo terminal with a handling capacity of 26,490 metric tonnes. The installation operates entirely on renewable energy, utilizing a 4MW ground-mounted solar power plant alongside a 100KW rooftop solar installation.
