Description
Huangdicun Naval Air Base, also regionally known as Xingcheng, is a military aviation facility located near Huludao, Liaoning, China. It is distinct from the nearby dual-use Xingcheng Air Base. The installation operates as a satellite flight-training field station for the PLA Naval Aviation University, an institution established in 2017 following the merger of the Naval Aviation Academy and the Naval Aviation Engineering Academy.
The base is operated by the People's Liberation Army Navy Air Force (PLANAF) and functions as China's principal shore-based carrier-aviation training field. Jurisdiction over carrier aviation and this facility was explicitly retained by the PLAN during the 2023 PLANAF reorganization. Currently, the base hosts flight training units subordinate to the PLA Naval Aviation University.
Base infrastructure is configured to simulate aircraft carrier environments. Facilities include a ski-jump ramp, arresting gear, and painted carrier-deck markings. The installation supports training operations linked to the aircraft carrier Fujian and operates J-15 aircraft for shore-based carrier flight instruction.
