INS Shikra (INS Kunjali (Colaba naval base, Mumbai))

INS Shikra, originally established as INS Kunjali, is a helicopter-only Indian naval air station located at the former Gun Carriage Basin in Colaba, Mumbai, Maharashtra. During the Second World War, the site functioned as a munitions depot and boat repair facility. Helicopter operations commenced in 1964 on a temporary grass helipad following the Indian Navy's acquisition of Alouette III (HAL Chetak) helicopters. On 3 April 1972, the Bombay flight of the Goa-based INAS 321 was established at the installation. The site gained a dedicated helicopter maintenance facility in 1983 to service aircraft disembarked from fleet ships. The naval air station was formally renamed INS Shikra on 22 January 2009.

Operated by the Indian Naval Air Arm, the installation provides administrative, technical, and logistic support for aviation units based in Mumbai and meets the operational flying requirements of the Western Naval Command. The base conducts coastal patrol, search and rescue, casualty evacuation, and air surveillance operations, while supporting the integral flights of the fleet.

The heliport infrastructure features a maintenance depot providing accommodation and technical facilities for Westland Sea King, Kamov Ka-27, and HAL Chetak helicopters. Resident units include INAS 321, a search and rescue and logistics squadron operating HAL Chetaks, and INAS 330, an anti-submarine warfare squadron equipped with Westland Sea King Mk.42B helicopters. The facility also houses the Indian Coast Guard's CGAS 842 squadron, which operates Chetak helicopters.
