Description
Libby Army Airfield is a joint-use civil-military facility located on the Fort Huachuca U.S. Army installation in Sierra Vista, Cochise County, Arizona. The airfield is named for Medal of Honor recipient George D. Libby. Between the 1960s and 2007, the site supported scheduled commercial passenger service through various regional carriers, including America West Airlines, Mesa Airlines, and Great Lakes Airlines.
The facility is operated jointly by the City of Sierra Vista and the United States Army. The airfield primarily supports military aviation requirements for Fort Huachuca, though it remains available for general aviation and cargo traffic. Ameriflight operates regular cargo flights between the facility and Phoenix-Sky Harbor.
The infrastructure includes three runways and one helipad. The airfield houses multiple categories of aircraft, including military units, helicopters, and civilian multi-engine and single-engine aircraft. Operational facilities are configured to support both fixed-wing and rotary-wing assets for military and civil users.
