Description
Melitopol Air Base is located near Melitopol in the Zaporizhzhia Oblast. Historically operated by the Ukrainian Air Force, the base served as the station for the 25th Transport Aviation Brigade. The unit operated Ilyushin Il-76M/MD, Ilyushin Il-78, and Antonov An-26 aircraft.
On 24 February 2022, the base was targeted by Russian cruise missile strikes, which damaged the control tower and a fueling station. Russian forces captured the installation on 1 March 2022. While under Russian occupation, the facility was targeted by Ukrainian rocket strikes on 3 July 2022. The base remains under the control of Russian forces.
