Description
Kanatove is a reserve air base of the Ukrainian Air Force located near Kropyvnytskyi in the Kirovohrad Oblast. The facility was previously operated by the Soviet Air Forces, hosting the 190th Fighter Aviation Regiment of the 138th Fighter Aviation Division between 1960 and 1990. The 88th Fighter-Bomber Aviation Regiment of the 17th Air Army was stationed at the base from 1984 to 1987, and the 727th Guards Bomber Aviation Regiment of the 32nd Bomber Aviation Division operated from the site between July 1987 and January 1992.
During the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, the base was targeted by missile strikes aimed at aviation equipment. On 6 May 2022, strikes resulted in damage to Su-27 aircraft. On 23 July 2022, a subsequent missile strike resulted in the destruction of Su-27 and Su-24 aircraft.
