Nizhyn Air Base

Nizhyn Air Base is located in the Chernihiv Oblast of Ukraine, four kilometers north of Nizhyn. The facility was operated by Soviet Long Range Aviation and subsequently by Ukrainian Long Range Aviation. Between 1964 and 1967, the base transitioned to the Tupolev Tu-22R, supporting reconnaissance operations directed toward Western Europe. During the 1990s, the site functioned as a disposal location for retired Tu-22 airframes.

The 199th Independent Long-Range Reconnaissance Aviation Regiment (199 ODRAP) was stationed at the base from 1964 until the 1990s. This regiment operated airframes including the Tu-22R, Tu-22RDK, Tu-22K, and Tu-22UD. On December 30, 1996, the regiment was reorganized as the 18th Separate Long Range Aviation Squadron, which operated An-30B, Tu-22P, and Tu-22U aircraft. In February 1999, the unit was transferred to the Ministry of Emergency Situations and redesignated as the 300th Special Aviation Squadron.

The airfield is a medium-sized bomber base of modern design and features 33 large revetments positioned along a curved taxiway. The facility is currently used for the storage of decommissioned Ukrainian bombers.
