Ōmura Air Base (Ōmura Airport (former civil designation, pre-2011))

Ōmura Air Base is a military installation in Japan operated by the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) and the United States Navy. Originally established in 1923 as an Imperial Japanese Navy air group, the facility was re-established as a JMSDF base between 1955 and 1957. Prior to 2011, it also carried the civil designation Ōmura Airport. That year, the former civil Nagasaki Airport A Runway District was formally transferred to the Ministry of Defense.

JMSDF units stationed at the base include Fleet Air Wing 22, the 22nd Air Squadron—consisting of the 221st, 222nd, and 223rd Flight Squadrons—and the Ōmura Air Base Squadron. Since 1992, under the Japan-US Status of Forces Agreement, the United States Navy has operated a section of the base to hangar and maintain helicopters that deploy on amphibious assault ships based at Sasebo.

The adjacent Ōmura Bay functions as a seadrome supporting US-1 and US-2 rescue flying boats. These aircraft utilize the bay for operations but are stationed at other installations.
