Description
Panevėžys Air Base, also identified as Pajuostis and Tulpė, is located six kilometers east of Panevėžys, Lithuania. Historically, the installation served as a transport base for the 128th Guards Military Aviation Transport Regiment (128 Gv VTAP) of the Soviet Military Transport Aviation. The unit operated Antonov An-22 and Ilyushin Il-76 aircraft and received the first Il-76M in the USSR at this location on August 27, 1977. The 128 Gv VTAP relocated to Orenburg in 1992.
Between 1993 and 2007, the facility functioned as the Lithuanian Air Force Second Air Base. From 1993 to 2000, it hosted a fighter squadron and a transport squadron. From 2000 to 2007, the base hosted a helicopter squadron. The Lithuanian Armed Forces ceased using the airfield in 2007.
Infrastructure at the site includes 32 revetments and a ring taxiway measuring two kilometers in diameter.
