Description

SLAF Katukurunda, also designated as Katukurunda Airport, is a military airbase and domestic airport located 4.6 kilometers southeast of Kalutara, Sri Lanka.

The facility was established in 1944 by the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy as Royal Naval Air Station HMS Ukussa. At its peak, it was the largest Royal Naval Air Station, maintaining an aircraft repair yard and servicing over 100 aircraft simultaneously. Personnel at peak operation included 300 officers, 3,000 sailors, and 100 members of the Women's Royal Naval Service.

The Sri Lanka Air Force reactivated the base in 1984. The installation is owned by the Government of Sri Lanka and operated by the Sri Lanka Air Force as both a military base and a civil domestic airport. The aerodrome also provides flight training facilities used by local civil flying schools.
