Description

SLAF Hingurakgoda, also known as Hingurakgoda Airport or Minneriya Airport, is a Sri Lanka Air Force base and domestic airport situated in Hingurakgoda, 11.9 kilometers north of Polonnaruwa. The facility was established in 1942 as Royal Air Force station RAF Minneriya during World War II and remained operational until 1946. The Sri Lanka Air Force renovated and re-established the airfield as a military airbase in 1978.

Owned by the Government of Sri Lanka and operated by the Sri Lanka Air Force, the base hosts No. 7 Helicopter Squadron and No. 9 Attack Helicopter Squadron. The facility also supports civil aviation, serving as a destination for domestic charter flights from Colombo-Ratmalana operated by FitsAir.

The airfield lacks an Instrument Landing System, requiring visual approaches and takeoffs. Infrastructure at the facility supports narrow-body aircraft, including the Airbus A320 family, Boeing 737, and Boeing 757, as well as wide-body types such as the Airbus A300, Airbus A330, Boeing 767, Boeing 777, and Boeing 747.
