SLAF Iranamadu (Kilinochchi Airport)

SLAF Iranamadu, also known as Iranamadu Airport and Kilinochchi Airport, is a Sri Lanka Air Force station and domestic airport located in Iranamadu, northern Sri Lanka, approximately 9.5 kilometers southeast of Kilinochchi. The facility is owned by the Government of Sri Lanka and operated by the Sri Lanka Air Force.

The site was initially established in the early 1990s by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), who cleared land southeast of the Iranamadu Tank and opened a runway on 19 March 1995. This initial airstrip was subsequently destroyed by Sri Lanka Air Force bombings. In late 2003, the LTTE built a second airstrip east of the tank. Used by the Air Tigers wing between 2003 and 2009, the airfield served as a launch site for airborne attacks, including the October 2007 raid on SLAF Anuradhapura.

Sri Lankan military forces captured the airstrip on 15 January 2009. A Sri Lanka Air Force detachment moved to the facility on 21 June 2009, and the site was officially designated an air station on 3 August 2011. Following reconstruction work to enable light aircraft operations and subsequent expansions for larger military transports, the airfield was formally opened as a domestic airport in June 2013.

The installation's infrastructure is capable of handling air force transport aircraft, including the Lockheed C-130 Hercules and Antonov An-32. Civilian passenger operations at the airport include Helitours services connecting the base to Colombo-Ratmalana.
