The United States Army ground forces operate under United States Army Forces Command for operational readiness, alongside regional operational commands including U.S. Army Europe and Africa, U.S. Army Pacific, U.S. Army Central, and U.S. Army South. Operational command at the corps level is assigned to I Corps at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, III Armored Corps at Fort Cavazos, V Corps at Fort Knox and Forward Operating Site Poznań, and XVIII Airborne Corps at Fort Liberty. Active-component divisions comprise the 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley, 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Cavazos, 1st Armored Division at Fort Bliss, 2nd Infantry Division at Joint Base Lewis-McChord and Camp Humphreys, 3rd Infantry Division at Fort Stewart, 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson, 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum, 11th Airborne Division at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks, 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Liberty, and 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell. Tactical maneuver elements within these divisions are organized into Armored, Infantry, and Stryker Brigade Combat Teams.

Armored units field M1A2 System Enhancement Package version 2 and 3 Abrams main battle tanks alongside M2A3 and M3A3 Bradley infantry fighting and cavalry fighting vehicles. Infantry and motorized units utilize the Stryker family of eight-wheeled armored vehicles, Infantry Squad Vehicles, and the Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicle. Field artillery units operate M109A6 and M109A7 Paladin self-propelled howitzers, M777 towed howitzers, M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems, and M270A2 Multiple Launch Rocket Systems. Air defense formations deploy MIM-104 Patriot surface-to-air missile batteries, Maneuver-Short Range Air Defense systems on Stryker chassis, and Avenger platforms. Army aviation operates AH-64E Apache attack helicopters, UH-60M Black Hawk utility helicopters, CH-47F Chinook heavy-lift helicopters, and MQ-1C Gray Eagle unmanned aerial systems.

Modernization programs include the XM30 Mechanized Infantry Combat Vehicle program to replace the Bradley family and the M1E3 Abrams initiative to develop a lighter main battle tank variant. Small arms are transitioning through the Next Generation Squad Weapon initiative, introducing the M7 rifle and M250 automatic rifle chambered in 6.8mm. Ground-based precision fire modernizations include the Precision Strike Missile, replacing the Army Tactical Missile System, and the Typhon Mid-Range Capability system. Aviation procurement focuses on the Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft program, acquiring the V-280 Valor tiltrotor platform.

Operational deployments maintain forward-stationed and rotational forces across Europe, the Middle East, and the Indo-Pacific region. Formations are stationed along NATO eastern flank locations in Poland, Romania, and the Baltic states under Operation Atlantic Resolve. Forces deploy to Iraq and Syria under Operation Inherent Resolve, alongside garrisons in Kuwait, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia. In East Asia, ground forces maintain garrisons in South Korea and Japan, supported by operational deployments across Hawaii and Alaska.
