Several drones overflew Volkel Air Base, home to Royal Netherlands Air Force and USAF squadrons and to American nuclear weapons under NATO sharing. Dutch troops on the ground opened fire on them, but no wreckage was recovered. Eindhoven airport was closed for several hours. Nothing was recovered and no attribution was established; Dutch officials later described the machines reported in this period as small hobby drones rather than long-range military types.

An Italian Eurofighter on NATO Baltic Air Policing duty destroyed an unidentified drone over eastern Latvia before dawn on 14 August, the second time the alliance's quick-reaction force has shot one down over the country this year.
