Naval Support Facility Redzikowo (Naval Support Facility-Redzikowo)

Naval Support Facility Redzikowo is a United States Navy installation at Redzikowo in northern Poland, inland from the Baltic coast near Słupsk. It is the shore-based element of the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense System in Poland and constitutes Phase 3 of the European Phased Adaptive Approach, the U.S. contribution to NATO ballistic missile defence in Europe.

The facility operates the Aegis Ashore system armed with SM-3 Block IIA interceptors, a land-based derivative of the shipboard Aegis combat system and vertical launch cells. It has no waterfront and homeports no vessels; its personnel are U.S. Navy sailors, who were resident on site before the installation was completed. Administrative control passed from the Missile Defense Agency to the U.S. Navy on 15 December 2023, placing the base under United States Naval Forces Europe and the Sixth Fleet. On 10 July 2024 the missile defence site was declared operational and handed to NATO operational control, with the base formally opened on 13 November 2024. It works in conjunction with the comparable Aegis Ashore site at Deveselu, Romania, which covers the earlier phase of the same architecture.

The United States opened talks with Poland and other European states in 2002 on an interceptor site, and formal negotiations with Poland and the Czech Republic began in February 2007 for a Ground-Based Midcourse Defense installation. The European Interceptor Site planned for Redzikowo was to hold ten silo-based two-stage Ground-Based Interceptors with Exoatmospheric Kill Vehicles, paired with a tracking and discrimination radar at Brdy in the Czech Republic; a bilateral deployment agreement was signed in Warsaw on 20 August 2008, but the project was cancelled on 17 September 2009. A reformulated plan announced in October 2009 substituted smaller SM-3 interceptors on roughly the same schedule, on the same ground near Redzikowo, with construction completed and the site brought into service in 2023–2024.
