Description
Grazzanise Air Base, designated as Carlo Romagnoli Airport, is located in the Campania region of Italy, approximately 20 kilometers west of Caserta and 30 kilometers northwest of Naples. Historically, the installation supported flight operations for squadrons equipped with the North American F-86 Sabre, Fiat G.91, and Lockheed F-104 Starfighter.
The base is operated by the Italian Air Force and serves as the station for the 9º Stormo "Francesco Baracca." This unit functions as a combat search and rescue wing under the Support and Special Forces Command. Additionally, the base hosts the 2nd NATO Signal Squadron, a component of the NATO Communications and Information Agency that supports Allied Joint Force Command Naples.
Infrastructure at the site includes a dispersal and hangar area on the eastern perimeter with capacity for nine aircraft, as well as maintenance hangars and parking areas situated at both ends of the flight line. Navigation aids available at the field consist of TACAN and NDB. The facility features parallel runways, with one utilized for limited helicopter operations. The main base complex, containing administrative and support facilities, is located northwest of the airfield.
