The facility hosts the Republic of Korea Army's 1st Combat Aviation Brigade, a military formation subordinated to the Army Aviation Operations Command. The brigade was established on June 1, 1978, at the 61st Aviation Group, initially comprising the 202nd and 203rd aviation battalions operating UH-1H helicopters. On May 22, 1980, elements of the brigade were ordered by Army Headquarters to deploy to Gwangju to suppress the Gwangju Uprising.

The brigade's wider organization also includes the 502nd Aviation Battalion, equipped with MD 500 helicopters, and the 111th Aviation Battalion, which operates AH-1F/S helicopters and functions as a joint unit with the 6th Marine Brigade stationed on Baengnyeongdo.
