Isa Air Base (Shaikh Isa Air Base)

Isa Air Base, formerly known as Shaikh Isa Air Base, is located on the Persian Gulf shore in southern Bahrain. Coalition forces operated from the installation during the Gulf War, and the U.S. Air Force 384th Air Expeditionary Wing was deployed to the site between 2003 and 2004. In March 2009, the U.S. Air Force established a detachment of the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing at the facility to manage aerial port operations, accelerating the transport of mine-resistant ambush-protected all-terrain vehicles to U.S. forces in Afghanistan. KBR assumed base operations support services at the site in August 2020.

The installation hosts the Royal Bahraini Air Force (RBAF) 1st Fighter Wing. Stationed RBAF units include the 1st Fighter Squadron and 2nd Fighter Squadron, both operating Lockheed Martin F-16C/D Block 40 Fighting Falcons; the 6th Fighter Squadron, operating Northrop F-5E/F aircraft; the 5th Squadron, operating British Aerospace Hawk aircraft; and the 4th Squadron, operating Slingsby T-67 Firefly trainers. The United States also maintains a presence at the base, deploying military aircraft to support operations against ISIL.
