Description
Sa Pran Nak Army Airport (ICAO: VTBH) is an active military airfield located 17 kilometers northeast of Lopburi in Khok Kathiam, Mueang Lopburi District, Lopburi Province, Thailand. The Royal Thai Army established the facility in 1967 to relocate its flight school from the nearby Khok Kathiam Air Force Base, where it previously shared space with the 2nd Air Wing of the Royal Thai Air Force. Initially housing the Army Aviation School, the governing unit reorganized as the Army Aviation Department in 1972 and became the Army Aviation Center on September 2, 1977.
The Royal Thai Army Aviation Center operates the installation, supporting flight training and operational military aviation. The base hosts multiple battalions equipped with fixed-wing aircraft, rotary-wing aircraft, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Stationed rotary-wing units include the 1st Aviation Battalion, operating Eurocopter Fennec, Bell 212, AgustaWestland AW139, and AW149 helicopters. The 2nd Aviation Battalion flies the Bell 212, while the 3rd Aviation Battalion operates Bell 212s alongside AH-1F Cobra attack helicopters. The 9th Aviation Battalion operates the Bell 212 and Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk. The 41st Aviation Battalion flies Eurocopter UH-72 Lakota, EC145, and Mil Mi-17V-5 helicopters. Fixed-wing and UAV assets are assigned to the 21st Aviation Battalion, which operates the Beriev Be-200, Cessna 182 Skylane, Cessna 185 Skywagon, Kodiak 100, Pilatus PC-12, Searcher Mk II, and Hermes 450.
Airfield infrastructure includes a DVOR/DME and a non-directional beacon for navigation. The runway pavement has a maximum load capacity of 21,000 kilograms (21 tons), permitting operations by aircraft such as the C-212 Aviocar. Ground support services maintain three JP-8 aviation fuel trucks and one 100LL Avgas truck. The base fire and rescue services operate three response trucks equipped with water capacities ranging from 1,000 to 4,500 liters and foam capacities of 400 to 600 liters.
