Supadio Air Force Base (Sungai Durian Airport)

Supadio Air Force Base is a Type-A airbase operated by the Indonesian Air Force, located in Kubu Raya Regency, West Kalimantan, 17 kilometers from Pontianak. The airbase shares its airfield facilities and runway with the civilian Supadio International Airport.

Originally established as Sungai Durian Airfield, construction was initiated in 1940 by the Dutch East Indies government in agreement with the Pontianak Sultanate. Japanese forces bombed the airfield in December 1941 and captured the unfinished facility in early 1942. Construction was completed during the Japanese occupation using romusha labor to support military operations against Allied forces. Between June and August 1945, United States Army Air Forces bombing rendered the runway inoperative. Indonesian authorities assumed control of the facility following the withdrawal of Dutch forces, initiating reconstruction in 1951. During the early 1960s, the airbase was expanded to support Operation Dwikora during the Indonesia–Malaysia Confrontation. In the 1980s, the facility was renamed after Lieutenant Colonel Supadio, an Indonesian Air Force officer.

Supadio Air Force Base hosts the 1st Air Combat Squadron, which operates BAE Systems Hawk 109/209 aircraft, and the 51st UAV Squadron, which operates CAIG Wing Loong unmanned aerial vehicles. The base is situated near the Indonesia–Malaysia border and the South China Sea.
